Turmeric Chai latte

Serves: 4

The coziest drink a new mother can drink! Aids in digestion, reduces inflammation, full of healthy fat, and helps support milk production.

Ingredients

  • 3” piece of ginger, thinly sliced

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 tablespoon green cardamom pods

  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns

  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds

  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds

  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 6 cups filtered water

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 4 cups coconut milk or milk from pasture-raised cows

  • Pinch of saffron

  • Honey or maple syrup to taste

  • Nutmeg (optional)

Directions

  1. In a medium pot, add the ginger, cinnamon, cardamom pods, black peppercorns, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds, whole cloves, and bay leaves and water.

  2. Bring the pot to a boil over high heat. Turn the heat to medium-low and cover. Simmer for 45 minutes.

  3. Add the milk, turmeric, and saffron. Simmer on low heat for 3-5 minutes longer.

  4. Strain into a mug. Add maple syrup or honey to taste. Sprinkle with nutmeg if using.

  5. Best enjoyed hot. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
